This past weekend (25th & 25th May) I was delighted to join Team Macmillan and don my green t-shirt to cheer on and of course photograph the wonderful people running to raise money for Macmillan. We were a mixed bunch of staff and volunteers from Edinburgh and London and we had a blast!
Macmillan is a charity very close to my heart as their wonderful, dedicated, caring and supremely supportive nurses helped to nurse my Grandad when he was dying of cancer a few years ago. They were also a huge support to the rest of the family at what was a very sad and stressful time. Once again Macmillan stepped up to support us last year when we were told my Father in law had terminal cancer. The support we received from Elaine at the Edinburgh Western General base was invaluable, particularly with deciding what and how to tell our son that his Grandad was going to die.
As a result I wanted to be able to give something back and get involved so last year I got in touch with the lovely Jane and we discussed me becoming a voluntary photographer for the Edinburgh Macmillan team. It is a role I am very proud to have and I hope to join the team on many more occasions over the years.
The people running for Macmillan at the EMF weekend raised in the region of £600,000.00 which is AMAZING! And I'd like to point out that I didn't run at all, I just took photos. And screamed like a lunatic. And wore a green afro wig on Sunday which was mocked by the compere! I may also have shouted out your name if you had it on your vest or tshirt so if you wondered who the crazy Macmillan clad woman was screaming "Well done!" at you, now you know!
I was so impressed, moved and inspired by the entire weekend that I may have rather foolishly agreed to run at least 5k next year for Macmillan with some of the team. This has now somehow snowballed into us forming a relay team, eek! So next year it will be me running and someone else taking the photos, which is a shame as I adored every minute of it and can't wait to be a part of Team Macmillan again soon!
